Spotlight on Henderson County High School’s Career & Technical Education Unit - “Getting To Know You To Grow Our Partnership”

On Thursday, January 29th Northwest KY Forward and Henderson County High School will shine the spotlight on the Career & Technical Education Unit (CTEU) by hosting the first “Open House” for the CTEU from 1:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The “Open House” is a project on which NWKF and the high school have been working for several months.

Existing businesses in Henderson County have been invited to set up in the cafeteria to meet and greet students taking classes in the CTEU and their parents.  Over 20 businesses will receive a guided tour of the classrooms prior to the start of the open house and then answer questions the students might have about how to obtain employment, what classes are needed in high school, etc. from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Keynote speakers will address the community from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium.

The open house – “Getting To Know You To Grow Our Partnership” - is an invitation to the entire community. In the CTEU there are 14 classes available to students:  Accounting Services, Agriculture, Automotive Technology, Business Management, Carpentry, CISCO (IT), Culinary Arts, Family and Consumer Services, Finance and Banking, Graphic Arts, Health Science, Machine Tool Technology, Pre-Engineering and Welding.

Workforce Challenges Forum

The “Workforce Challenges Forum” was held on October 15th with 90 existing business representatives, area educators and elected officials in attendance.  The focus of the forum was on the serious workforce challenges we face and developing a game plan to address those challenges.  NWKF partnered with the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers to bring the forum to this region.

Existing Business Update

In the first six months of our fiscal year (July 1, 2008-December 31, 2008), 71 existing businesses were visited in our four county region.  In the past 12 months, expansions were either completed or begun at 4 existing businesses, resulting in the creation of 70 new jobs.
