Union County Continues to Rally 4 Education

June 24th, 2009

Recently, I posted information on the groups that had formed as a part of the Henderson County Education Advocacy Team.  Today, I am posting an update on the groups formed in Union County.  As always, additional information can be found at www.rally4education.com.

The Academic Emphasis Group is planning a Job Shadowing program for incoming high school freshmen July 21st-23rd.  Job shadowing is an academically motivating activity designed to give students an up-close look at the world of work and to answer the question, “Why do I have to learn this?”  Interested businesses or parents/students may contact Union County First at 389-9600. Application deadline, June 30. The next Academic Emphasis Group meeting will be June 30, 6:30PM, Saint Ann Parrish Hall Activity Room.

The Expectations Group is currently planning a Back to School Rally for August 1 at the Renaissance Corner downtown Morganfield, 11AM-1PM. Entertainment, activities, and food provided. The event is open to the community!

The Factors Impacting Student Success Group and Teachers and Employees Group are collaborating on a School Counts! scholarship program for our UCHS graduates.

The Instructional Support Group is interested in pursuing partnerships between UCHS, HCC, and the Herron Tech Center.

The Student Motivation Group recently coordinated a successful county-wide Pep Rally for CATS testing to support and encourage our students to do their best!

Finally, two new groups have formed since the Rally in March!

The Happy Feet, Learning Feet group is fundraising to provide new shoes to students in need.

There is also interest forming  a partnership with the Union County Health Council, as health education and issues directly affect our students in their learning process.
