A developer of software for the health care industry, IWT invested more than $2 million in their new headquarters, developm6ent and data center, creating 40+ high wage and high tech jobs.

NWKF’s New Existing Business Manager Announced

DSC01910 300x225 NWKFs New Existing Business Manager Announced Meghan Crosman has been named the Existing Business Manager at Northwest Kentucky Forward.

The Existing Business Manager is responsible for implementing NWKF’s comprehensive business retention and expansion program.

Crosman will join the Northwest Kentucky Forward team May 16th. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kentucky State University in 2004 and is a graduate of the Kentucky Institute for Economic Development. Crosman has worked for the Kentucky Association for Economic Development the last nine years as the Events Operations Manager.

From The Gleaner: 2,000 jobs: Economic developers tout five-year plan for region

Regional economic development organization Northwest Kentucky Forward is pledging to bring 2,000 new industrial jobs to the Henderson area over the next five years.

NWKF’s board of directors adopted that goal Tuesday as it ramps up to seek $3.3 million from cities, counties, utility companies, banks, existing industries, Realtors and other investors to finance economic development efforts for the next half-decade.

From the Gleaner- Port to market itself to existing industries

The Henderson County Riverport, in conjunction with the Northwest Kentucky Forward economic development organization, has scheduled a two-hour seminar next month to explain to existing industries how the port can assist with logistics.

“The cost of transporting products from you or your competitor often is the deciding factor as to who gets the business,” Northwest Kentucky Forward noted in a press release.

Free Seminar: Explore the Henderson County Riverport

A two hour seminar from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. will be presented by the Henderson County Riverport Director, Greg Pritchett, on 8 March 2011 at the Henderson County Extension Office on Highway 351. The seminar will share how one can use: 1) river and rail freight transportation; 2) Foreign Trade Zones; 3) and for those interested in exporting products, Greg Pritchett will share his past experiences in foreign customer relationships and export finance.

FEBRUARY 23RD AND 24TH- “Creating a Difference”

**Certificates will only be issued to those completing Part 1 and Part 2 of a session**

Northwest KY Forward is pleased to present a FREE, six-hour session on “Creating A Difference” for Supervisors and Managers of our Existing Businesses. The Supervisory session focuses on the challenges facing first line supervisors, and how critical it is for Supervisors to acquire those skills to improve the relationship between employees and leaders for the success of an organization.  The Leadership session explains how complex the business environment is and how strong leadership involves the power to make a difference, with the responsible exercise of that power effecting real changes within an organization. 

Sessions will be split into two parts over the two-day period:

FEBRUARY 23RD:

1.            Part 1 –7:30 a.m. registration; session from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. “Supervisory Skills for the 21st Century”

2.            Part 1 –12:30 p.m. registration; session from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  “Leadership: Creating a Real Difference”

FEBRUARY 24TH:

1.            Part 2 – 7:30 a.m. registration; session from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. “Leadership: “Creating a Real Difference”

2.            Part 2 – 12:30 p.m. registration; session from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. “Supervisory Skills for the 21st Century”

Seating limited to 30 registrants for each session (first come first serve)!

Please note that seating is definitely limited to a maximum of 30 in each session. If you find you cannot attend after registering, please contact us!  This will allow others the opportunity.

Governor Beshear Announces $37 Million Investment

February 10th, 2011

Governor Steve Beshear today visited Rio Tinto Alcan’s aluminum smelter in Sebree to announce a $37 million reinvestment project that will help retain the jobs of nearly 500 employees. The plant, which is one of only a handful of aluminum smelters remaining in the United States, is installing a new bake furnace that will enable the facility to operate at its current capacity for the next 15-20 years.

Big Thursday to Follow Big Wednesday!

Today was a busy day in Northwest Kentucky! This morning the NWKF HR Council breakfast featuring a 3–hour training session was SRO with HR pros from throughout the region taking part in one of NWKF free training programs, this one sponsored by KMAC and the University of Phoenix. 

This afternoon, NWKF assisted Kentucky Utilities with their Morganfield Career Fair at Henderson Community College’s Herron Tech Center.  Even with the inclement weather, their first two sessions were full with more on the way!

Tomorrow morning Governor Beshear will be in Northwest Kentucky to join officials at Rio Tinto Alcan for an exciting announcement while Kentucky Utilities will be hosting their Henderson Career Fair at HCC’s Henderson Fine Arts Center.

Business, industry training group revived- NEWS from The Gleaner

After a few years of dormancy, the idea of allowing businesses and industries to band together to find affordable employee training opportunities is being resurrected here.

Named the Northwest Kentucky Training Consortium, the new non-profit organization is intended to help companies in Henderson, Union, Webster and McLean counties. In fact, it will largely be run by member companies.
