Algae Symposium Focuses Energy Research on Area
More than 150 scientists, researchers, and executives involved with algae as an energy source were in Northwest Kentucky over the last two days. The Algae Symposium, sponsored by the University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research in cooperation with Henderson Community College, the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, local governments, and NWKF, focused on the expanding role of algae in both carbon capture and in the production of alternative fuels.
UK CAER is currently working on a pilot project with local coal-fired power providers that involve connecting algae farms directly with CO2 emission. The opportunities for this type of technology is extremely important for not only Northwest Kentucky but for our nation which derives more than half of its power from coal.
Northwest Kentucky is committed to being on the front line of energy independence and positioning our region to lead the nation in this sector.
