Through our partnership with Community Ventures Corporation, businesses and banks in our region have the opportunity to take advantage of the 504 loan program.
This SBA-backed loan lets banks loan 50% of a project, CVC will loan 40% at fixed rates (usually below market), and the owner injects 10%.
While the traditional cap on the CVC portion is 40% or $1.5 million for some projects (like manufacturing) the cap increases substantially. Also, for the remainder of the year the Federal stimulus bill eliminates all fees!

NWKF operates (through our great partnership with Community Ventures Corporation) the Northwest Kentucky Microentreprise Fund. Entrepreneurs and small businesses can access micro loans ($35,000 or less) to help start or expand a small business.
These funds are not meant to compete with banks but to supplement entrepreneurs who have a great idea but are not ready for bank financing.
Last year, CVC (which just serves Kentucky) made nearly 20% of the SBA-funded Microentreprise loans in the nation with the number of loans made in Henderson only trailing those made in Louisville and Lexington!
This past week, approximately 25 people in Henderson and Union Counties participated in facilitator training as a part of the Rally 4 Education initiative. These community members are helping to lead various committees involved in the Community Advocacy Teams.
Our great partners at Henderson Community College, Cathy Hunt and Arlene Alexander, helped our facilitators learn how to engage their members and ensure that the team is driven locally.
If you would like to participate, it is not to late! Email Katie French (katie@northwestky.com) today to learn how you can get involved in your community.
Northwest Kentucky Forward is one of the proud founding sponsors of KentucyUnited. This is a new marketing cooperative initiative that is bringing together local and regional economic development groups, utility partners, allied partners, and the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development to jointly market the Commonwealth to potential businesses and consultants.
Congratulations to the Kentucky Association for Economic Development for bringing this to fruition. Many of us have talked for several years of doing this, KAED finally got it done.
I’ll blog about this in the future and how this will benefit Northwest Kentucky specifically and the state overall.
Nearly 200 citizens have participated in Community Advocacy Team meetings since the Rally 4 Education Excellence! Each team (one each in Henderson, McLean, Union, & Webster Counties) is setting its own agenda and direction and creating various committees to tackle issues important to that Team.

More than 550 residents from throughout Northwest Kentucky attended the Rally 4 Education Excellence on Saturday, 21 March. Attendees were motivated and inspired by Governor Beshear, national Education Trust president Kati Haycock, as well as business, community and education leaders from throughout Kentucky.
The goal of the program was to rally community support for excellence in our region’s schools. Community Advocacy Teams are already being formed in each county of the region to support activities in their communities.
